- Responsible to the Master for the supervision and administration of Deck Operations. - Second in Command of the vessel and the Officer in Charge in the absence of the Master. - Assume the duties of: - Ships Security Officer - Ships Safety Officer - Planning and supervising the maintenance and upkeep of the hull, decks and superstructure - Ensuring that all work is carried out safely and properly with the emphasis on the control of deterioration and corrosion - Liaising with the Engineering Department to ensure that the tanks, holds, and cargo handling equipment is maintained in good working order and ensuring any work involving the outward presentation of the ship does not take priority over work which is essential for the safety and efficiency of the ship - Taking daily soundings of the cargo & ballast tanks, bilges & cofferdams. - Weekly soundings of void spaces, and the logging of the results - Maintaining a Log Book in which the Master or himself shall write orders relating to cargo handling, cargo valve settings, ballasting instructions and any other special requirements during the voyage. - Gas freeing and cleaning of all hold tanks and void spaces including fuel tanks. Cargo Planning and Reports: - Cargo planning, including tank preparation, loading, stowage, discharging and sampling. - Preparing accurate reports and records concerning the cargo. - Compliance with any special regulations and procedures concerning cargo handling in different ports. - Final plan to include the position and category of any dangerous cargo carried in liaison with the Master. Port Operations: - Maintaining safe and secure vessel moorings. - Ensuring safe access to the vessel for authorized personnel by gangway or accommodation ladder is provided.

- Passage Planning; - Executed Bridge Watches at sea ; - Executed Cargo Watch during Cargo Operations ; - Assisted the Chief Officer in maintenance of the Life Saving and Fire Fighting appliances; - Understanding the rank above; - Maintained the Bridge equipment ready as required; - General radio operator; - Maintenance of all navigation and signal flags; - Maintenance of the vessel’s maritime library of regulations and guidelines; - Maintenance of Safety Equipment Log; - Maintenance of the Radio Log Book; - Preparation of the pre arrival/pre departure port documents; - The necessary assistance, support and training is given to company cadets and Junior Officers; - Taking part in mooring (commander of mooring station), anchoring operations; - Cargo handling. Performed Chief Officer's duties. - Assisted the Chief Officer and Master in Dry Dock (m/t Harbour Cloud, m/t Lia Ievoli). - Calculation of ship’s monthly account. - Took part in rescue operations. - Successfully passed vetting of all oil major companies (BP, Shell, Conoco Philips, LukOil, CDI…) - Ship’s medic.
